TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The legal team representing Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), has confirmed they are coordinating closely with police following the acid attack on their client on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
"We have been cooperative from the very beginning, and the Type A report was filed at our initiative," stated Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) representative Airlangga Julio during a press conference on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Airlangga noted that the team has assisted the investigation by handing over several pieces of evidence, including a bottle suspected to have contained the acid. The container reportedly fell from the perpetrators' motorcycle shortly after the assault.
According to Airlangga, the team also offered to let police seize Andrie’s motorcycle for further forensic needs. "However, the police stated they do not require it for now," Airlangga said.
Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, Chief of the General Crime Detective Directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police, confirmed that investigators are currently examining multiple items. "We are conducting forensic laboratory tests on the helmet and the container suspected of holding the chemical liquid," Iman stated at the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Monday.
Authorities have also collected dozens of CCTV recordings from various points along the victim's route. "We have secured footage from 86 surveillance camera locations," Iman added.
Iman stated that preliminary findings suggest the involvement of approximately four perpetrators in what appears to be a premeditated strike. "The suspects are believed to have been monitoring the victim's movements well before the incident occurred," Iman noted.
Andrie Yunus was targeted while traveling on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on the night of Thursday, March 12, 2026. He was splashed with a corrosive solution by two unidentified individuals riding a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya explained that the assailants doused the front of Andrie’s body, causing him to collapse. "The victim immediately screamed in pain and dropped his motorcycle," Dimas said on Friday, March 13, 2026.
The corrosive chemical struck the right side of Andrie’s body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands, even melting portions of his clothing. Medical examinations later confirmed that Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent of his body.
