TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has begun investigating the alleged corruption in the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project, also known as Whoosh. The latest development indicates that the investigation of the bribery allegations has entered the stage of inquiry.
"Yes, there is indeed an inquiry," said the Acting Deputy of Enforcement and Execution of KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, in a response to Tempo on Monday, October 27, 2025.
However, Asep declined to provide further details regarding the alleged corruption in the high-speed train project. He explained that the investigation process is still in the initial inquiry stage. "We are still delving into the modus operandi," he stated.
On October 18, 2025, former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD mentioned on his X account, @mohmahfudmd, that he was asked to report this case to the KPK. He stated that the corruption issue in the high-speed train involved a markup.
"Under criminal law, if there is information about alleged criminal activity, law enforcement should immediately investigate it, not request a report," Mahfud MD stated.
He asked the KPK to quickly summon him to explain the alleged corruption issue involving the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project. Nevertheless, Mahfud MD requested that his summoning be solely for providing testimony to the anti-graft institution's investigators.
