TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Promotion Program Division of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (DPP APPBI), Agung Gunawan, stated that several strategies are in place to boost transactions across Jakarta and other regions during this year's Ramadan and Eid period. One of the primary promotions being implemented is the midnight sale, featuring major discounts held late into the night.

"Usually two weeks before Eid, coinciding with payday or the distribution of holiday allowances (THR), malls have already begun running midnight sales," he said during a press conference at Kota Kasablanka Mall, Jakarta, on Friday, February 13, 2026.

This promotion will be executed through discounts on specific products offered by individual brands. According to Agung, this method also serves to stimulate the economy throughout the Ramadan and Eid season.

Agung remains optimistic that public purchasing power during this period remains high because people are fundamentally oriented toward shopping. He also mentioned that transactions at Kota Kasablanka Mall, South Jakarta, in January increased by 3 percent from the previous month, and retailers continue to show strong interest in opening stores within shopping centers.

"Based on that, we are optimistic that the economy can maintain its momentum and that consumer purchasing power remains quite high," said Agung, who also serves as the General Manager of Kota Kasablanka Mall.

According to Agung, the phenomenon of "Rojali" (groups who browse but rarely buy) and "Rohana" (groups who only ask questions and do not buy) does not significantly impact overall shopping center transactions. Malls are not exclusively used for shopping, as they are also major destinations for food and beverage consumption.

During the Ramadan and Eid period, the Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Center Tenants Association (Hippindo) aims to achieve transactions exceeding Rp50 trillion. This target is set for the "Belanja di Indonesia Aja" (BINA) Great Sale Lebaran program, which runs from March 6 to 30, 2026.

Agung stated that APPBI members have prepared for this period by focusing on both visitor safety and comfort. "We are coordinating with tenants to prepare attractive shopping programs and culinary offerings," he said.

During Ramadan, shopping centers will also place a heavy focus on catering services. Food and beverage operations are expected to see a surge in activity during the peak hours leading up to the breaking of the fast, specifically from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
