TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Cathedral Church has scheduled a Requiem mass to pray for the late Pope Francis to be held today, Thursday, April 24, 2025. The Requiem mass for the leader of the Catholic Church will be held at 6 p.m.
The Vatican's Ambassador to Indonesia will lead the Requiem mass for Pope Francis. The mass will also be attended by the Chairman of the Indonesian Bishop's Conference and several bishops.
The Archbishop of Jakarta, Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo, said he would attend the concelebrated mass for Pope Francis. He called on dozens of parishes under the Jakarta Archdiocese to also hold the Requiem mass for Pope Francis today.
If it is not possible to be held today, Suharyo said that each parish is given the freedom to schedule the memorial mass on another occasion. "The Secretary Priest has sent a letter to all parishes in the Jakarta Archdiocese to celebrate the Eucharist for the soul of Pope Francis," said Suharyo on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

In a departure from tradition, Francis confirmed in his last will released on Monday that he wanted to be buried at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, and not at St. Peter's Basilica. The funeral of Pope Francis will be attended by leaders from around the world, ahead of next month's conclave to select a new leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
