TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A historic milestone for the Balinese Hindu community in Europe is set to unfold with the inauguration of the first Balinese Hindu temple in the Netherlands on May 3, 2025. Located at Taman Indonesia in Kallenkote, the temple—named Shanta Citta Bhuwana—carries a profound meaning: "a sacred place to attain peace of mind and spirit."
According to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague, the inauguration ceremony will include traditional Balinese rituals Melaspas (purification) and Ngenteg Linggih (sanctification), led by Ida Shri Bhagawan Putra Natha Nawa Wangsa from Bali.
The attendance of Bali Governor I Wayan Koster further signals the provincial government's strong support for the presence of the Balinese diaspora abroad.
The temple will not only serve as a religious sanctuary, but also a symbol of Balinese cultural identity in Europe. For the diaspora, Pura Shanta Citta Bhuwana will serve as a spiritual home, connecting them with ancestral values and traditions despite being far from the Island of the Gods.
This historic moment will be celebrated with an eight-day Bali Festival from April 27 to May 4, 2025. The event will feature cultural performances, workshops, and Balinese cuisine—transforming Taman Indonesia Kallenkote into a miniature kampung Bali or Balinese village in the heart of Europe.
