TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ambassador of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, believes that the United States is not qualified to lead the Board of Peace in Gaza. According to Boroujerdi, the Board of Peace is biased towards Israel.
"We believe that such efforts will not succeed because the Zionist regime of Israel is the occupying party. This regime is openly supported by the United States," he told reporters at the National Day Reception of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He said that any peace efforts in Gaza or other occupied territories should be led by neutral countries or independent international organizations.
"They already have a particular party, and if they have a particular party, they are not entitled to speak about mediation or peace processes or boards or such things," he said, referring to the U.S.
"We believe that if there is to be peace in Gaza or the occupied territories, it should come from neutral countries or neutral international organizations," he added.
Boroujerdi is pessimistic about the prospects of peace because Israel lacks commitment to cease fire, make peace agreements, or implement a two-state solution. He stated that despite ceasefire agreements between Israel and Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, attacks continue almost daily.
U.S. President Donald Trump launched the Board of Peace at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22, 2026. Several countries, including Indonesia, have declared their intention to join the board.
