TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto contacted Emir Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, a day after Israel attacked the capital of Qatar, Doha.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the Head of State inquired about the current situation in Qatar following Israel's attack on Doha the day before.
"In this conversation, President Prabowo inquired about the current situation in Qatar following Israel's attack on Doha, Qatar, on September 9, 2025," said Teddy in his written statement on September 10, 2025.
Teddy also conveyed that Israel's attack on Doha was a serious violation of international law principles. These violations include the UN Charter, infringement of Qatar's sovereignty, and a significant threat to the security and peace of the region. "This attack also risks escalating and expanding the conflict in the region," said Teddy.
Teddy emphasized that Indonesia consistently supports Qatar's sovereignty and peace in the Middle East region. He ensured that Indonesia supports the government and people of Qatar.
"Indonesia emphasizes its commitment to support all diplomatic efforts to achieve a fair, comprehensive, and sustainable peace settlement in the Middle East under the Two-State Solution," he said.
Meanwhile, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, stated that the country would adopt a comprehensive approach to respond to Israel's attack in Doha and prevent future attacks.
He affirmed that Qatar had the right to respond to Israel and would not tolerate any violations of its sovereignty.
"Qatar is committed to taking strong action against anything that targets its territory and will have the right to retaliate and take all necessary measures to respond," said Al-Thani as quoted by The Hill.
On Tuesday, Israel launched an unprecedented air strike in the capital of Qatar, targeting a building used by senior Hamas officials. Israeli authorities referred to the attack as an attempt to kill the leaders of the group directly responsible for the massacre on October 7.
Hamas stated that the attack occurred while their delegation was discussing a new ceasefire proposal put forward by US President Donald Trump. According to Hamas, the negotiating team survived, but six others were killed.
