TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the government has not yet formally revoked the mining license of the Martabe gold mine in North Sumatra, which is operated by PT Agincourt Resources.
Bahlil explained that although the government has announced plans to revoke several mining and plantation permits — including Martabe’s — the administrative process has not been completed.
“The revocation will be carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. That means, administratively, no revocation has taken place so far,” Bahlil said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The proposed revocation follows a recommendation from the Forest Area Arrangement Task Force (PKH). However, Bahlil said his ministry is still reviewing the legal and operational status of the Martabe mine.
He added that sanctions would be imposed if PT Agincourt Resources is found to have violated mining regulations.
“My team is currently conducting a thorough review. If violations are found, sanctions will certainly be imposed,” he said.
However, he stressed that any decision would be based on evidence and existing regulations.
“If there is no wrongdoing, we cannot issue a different judgment,” Bahlil added.
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to revoke a number of permits in the plantation and mining sectors, including those held by PT Agincourt Resources.
On January 28, 2026, Danantara Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria revealed a plan to transfer the management of the Martabe gold mine to PT National Mining Company (Perminas), a state-owned entity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment and Industry Upgrading, also known as the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), said it is still assessing the proposal to transfer Martabe’s management to Danantara.
Investment Minister and BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani said the ministry is conducting a comprehensive evaluation covering legal compliance, technical production aspects, ongoing business operations, and the company’s future strategy.
“The process is being carried out carefully to ensure legal certainty and maintain investor confidence in Indonesia’s investment climate,” Rosan said in a written statement on Monday, February 9, 2026.
He added that the ministry has held direct discussions with PT Agincourt Resources’ management to obtain a balanced and comprehensive understanding of the situation.
