TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Office of Hajj Affairs at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, reported that a total of 17,447 umrah pilgrims from Indonesia have been repatriated amid the escalation of the Iran-Israel-US conflict. The Technical Staff of the Hajj Office in Jeddah, M. Ilham Effendy, stated that the Hajj Affairs Office will monitor and accompany the return of Indonesian umrah pilgrims at the King Abdulaziz International Airport.
"We continue to register pilgrims who are still awaiting repatriation and coordinate with travel agencies and relevant authorities so that the repatriation process can be promptly resolved," Ilham said in an official statement from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah quoted on Monday, March 9, 2026.
He stated that based on data from the Airport Task Force as of March 7, 2026, at 23.00 local time, a total of 341 umrah pilgrims from several travel organizers are still awaiting the repatriation schedule. These pilgrims are staying in several hotels in Jeddah and Makkah for the time being.
The process of repatriating pilgrims continues through several airlines, including Saudi Airlines (Saudia), Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and IndiGo. A total of 1,665 pilgrims are scheduled to return to Indonesia through several flights from Jeddah Airport on the same date.
The Hajj Affairs Office in Jeddah is assisting 33 pilgrims from a travel agency in Makkah who are staying in a hotel while awaiting confirmation of their return. The Hajj Affairs Office in Jeddah is working with travel agencies and Saudi Arabian authorities to promptly repatriate the pilgrims at no additional cost.
"We continue to seek the best solutions through intensive coordination with various parties, so that pilgrims can return to Indonesia safely and comfortably," he said.
The Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak previously advised umrah pilgrims to postpone their departure to the Holy Land and wait until the situation becomes more conducive. This step is a precaution by the government to ensure the safety of its citizens. The government is monitoring the dynamic and uncertain security situation in the Middle East.
