TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is ready to facilitate an inclusive dialogue with all relevant parties in Myanmar to create peace, stability, and prosperity in the ASEAN region, as confirmed by Foreign Minister Sugiono.

"Indonesia is open to offer practical support, including sharing our valuable experiences in nation-building, the reconciliation process, and regional autonomy," said Sugiono, as quoted in a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Sugiono conveyed this at the Extended Informal Consultation on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus as part of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) Retreat in Cebu, the Philippines, on January 28.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister also hopes that ASEAN can continue to engage in a constructive and consistent manner to support the peace process in Myanmar.

According to him, the situation in Myanmar tests ASEAN's strength and credibility and emphasizes that the visit of special envoys to Myanmar reflects ASEAN's commitment to ensuring that the reconciliation process remains a top priority.

Indonesia also expressed special appreciation for the efforts of the Foreign Minister of the Philippines in engaging with various parties in Myanmar, a step viewed as a relevant substantial contribution.

Going forward, Indonesia believes that measured and innovative steps are needed to create sustainable and inclusive stability, as well as to build a strong foundation for the nation-building process in Myanmar.

At the AMM Retreat, the Foreign Minister of the Philippines, Theresa Lazzaro, as the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair for Myanmar, provided guidance on the latest developments in the situation in Myanmar.

The meeting comprehensively discussed the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) and ASEAN's future work priorities in efforts to resolve the crisis in Myanmar.

On January 25, Myanmar completed the third stage of the voting process in the first election since the military coup in 2021.

This election determines the legislators for the Myanmar Parliament's lower house, upper house, and regional-level legislative bodies. After being sworn in, the legislators will elect the President of Myanmar, who will then form the new government.
