TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government, through its Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), is exploring the idea of partnering with the global K-pop star BTS to promote Indonesian tourism. This proposal emerged after capital Jakarta was confirmed as one of the destinations for BTS' World Tour on December 26 and 27, 2026.
BTS and the 2026 World Tour in Indonesia
The K-pop sensation BTS, with members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, is scheduled to grace Jakarta at the end of this year. This tour has attracted the attention of various stakeholders due to BTS' massive global fan base, including those in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Ministry Invites BTS to Promote Indonesian Tourism
Indonesia's tourism ministry said they are seeking to partner with BTS in promoting Indonesian tourism during their visit, as stated by its Acting Deputy of Event Organizer Development, Vinsensius Jemadu.
According to Vinsensius, BTS' presence in Indonesia presents a strategic opportunity to introduce the wealth of Indonesia's culture, attractions, and culinary delights to international fans.
The ministry has previously posted BTS content on the official Indonesian tourism social media accounts (such as the clip of BTS members Jungkook and V participating in the 'aura farming' trend during their livestream). This demonstrates the government's interest in leveraging BTS' pop culture influence to promote local tourism.
Collaboration Strategy
Some planned approaches include an audience with the concert promoter (such as iMe Indonesia) to formulate the partnership.
Additionally, the government is planning a Familiarization Trip (Famtrip) program for BTS or their team to visit tourist destinations outside Bali to broaden the exposure of Indonesian destinations.
The government will also introduce Indonesian culinary delights for BTS to try and promote during their time in the country.
If BTS' visit time is limited, the Tourism Ministry said it will focus on introducing the charm of Jakarta, including cultural aspects and tourism experiences in the capital city.
Tourism Promotion Objectives
This effort is part of the strategy to utilize international activities to enhance foreign tourist interests in Indonesia. The government considers that BTS, as a pop culture icon, has extensive media coverage and deep fan influence, thus becoming a gateway to help expand awareness of Indonesian tourist destinations.
The collaboration is proposed under the directives from Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, who has instructed her staff to promptly arrange a meeting with the BTS concert promoter as the initial planning step.
