TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - All areas in Jakarta only have cloudy weather throughout the day on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. As quoted from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) website, the daily air temperature can reach a high of 34 degrees Celsius, specifically in South Jakarta.
Meanwhile, in some of its agglomerated regions, BMKG predicts light rain. This potential exists in the regions of Bogor City and Regency, Depok City, and Bekasi City.
Others, such as Bekasi Regency, Tangerang Regency, Tangerang City, and South Tangerang City, are predicted to have cloudy conditions. The daily air temperature could reach 35 degrees Celsius in Tangerang City.
Cause of the Scorching Weather in Jabodetabek
According to the BMKG, rain cloud growth and increased convective activity are more likely to occur in central and eastern Indonesia from March 17 to 23.
Meanwhile, most of Sumatra, parts of Java, and parts of Kalimantan are predicted to be dominated by positive outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) anomalies. This means that there is more outward longwave radiation from the earth than is retained, indicating a decrease in the growth of rain clouds.
"So the weather conditions in these regions tend to be drier or relatively less rainy than in the previous period," as stated by the BMKG.
Air Temperatures Recorded by BMKG
According to BMKG, the same conditions have occurred for several days. The hot weather conditions were observed in several regions of Indonesia, such as Tasikmalaya, West Java, which reached 37.2 degrees on March 13. On the same day, Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, recorded an air temperature of 36.4 degrees; Ciputat, Banten, 36.2 degrees; and Surabaya, East Java, reached 35.6 degrees Celsius.
Also on that day, East Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, recorded an air temperature of up to 35.4 degrees. The next day, on March 14, East Jakarta became the region with the highest maximum air temperature at 35.6 degrees Celsius. On March 14, as well, Ciputat and Tangerang in Banten had maximum air temperatures of 35.5 and 35.4 degrees.
"This high temperature condition is occurring as the distribution of rain tends to shift to the eastern part of Indonesia, causing some other regions to experience fewer cloud covers and more optimal receipt of sunlight radiation."
