TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A student from SMPN 3 (junior high school) Sungai Raya, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, is suspected of bringing a Molotov bomb to the school environment on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. In the incident, four explosions occurred in the school area around 10:40 AM local time.
The Indonesian National Police's Densus 88 Special Detachment for Counterterrorism stated that the student was exposed to True Crime Community (TCC) content and was interested in criminal-themed content.
Densus 88 spokesperson, Chief Commissioner Mayndra Eka Wardhana, stated that the student experienced severe mental pressure. He became a victim of bullying at school and allegedly faced family problems. This condition triggered the urge to seek revenge in the school environment. "The revenge was then carried out by committing acts of violence at his school," said Mayndra in a written statement on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
In handling this case, the police found several dangerous items. The police seized five portable gas cylinders with firecrackers attached to their sides, nails, and a knife. The police also found six bottles containing kerosene with cloth fuses or Molotov bombs, as well as a knife blade.
The West Kalimantan Regional Police brought the student in for further examination. Densus 88 oversaw the mapping process, delved deeper into the motives, and gathered evidence. However, the local police remained the main responsible party for handling this case.
"Densus 88 of the National Police's Anti-Terror Special Detachment accompanied the West Kalimantan Regional Police in handling the case, starting from the mapping process to the fulfillment of evidence," said Mayndra.
A day after the incident, the school implemented distance learning. The policy aims to alleviate the concerns of students and teachers following the incident in the school environment.
Until now, the West Kalimantan Regional Police are still delving into the student's psychological background and the influence of his social interactions and digital activities on the events at SMP Negeri 3 Sungai Raya.
