TEMPO.CO, Jakarta As many as seventeen neighborhood units (RT) were flooded in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), after heavy rains inundated the Jakarta area and its surroundings since Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The flooding was caused by heavy rainfall accompanied by overflowing rivers.

The Head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Disaster Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan, said the flooding was triggered by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers. "The cause was the heavy rainfall and the overflowing Ciliwung and Pesanggrahan Rivers," Yohan said in an official statement on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Increased water levels have been observed since Wednesday morning. The Katulampa Dam and the Sunter Hulu Post were on alert or alert level 3 at 6:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Wednesday. A similar alert status followed at the Pesanggrahan Post at 5:00 PM WIB and the Angke Hulu Post at 7:00 PM WIB.

Entering early Thursday morning, the Manggarai Floodgate was at Alert Level 3 at 1:00 AM WIB, followed by the Karet Floodgate at 3:00 AM WIB, and again at Alert Level 3 at the Pesanggrahan Post at 4:00 AM WIB.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded flooding in two administrative areas. In East Jakarta, inundation affected 14 neighborhood units (RTs) spread across Bidara Cina Village (4 RTs), Kampung Melayu Village (4 RTs), Cawang Village (5 RTs), and Cililitan Village (1 RT). Water levels in these areas ranged from 110 to 150 centimeters due to the overflowing Ciliwung River.

Meanwhile, in West Jakarta, flooding inundated 3 neighborhood units (RTs) in South Kedoya Village with water levels reaching approximately 30 centimeters. The inundation in these areas was triggered by heavy rainfall and the overflowing Pesanggrahan River. Floodwaters in one neighborhood unit (RT) in Rawajati Village and three neighborhood units in East Pejaten Village have reportedly receded.

In addition to residential areas, two roads were also flooded. Jalan Raden Inten II in Duren Sawit Village, East Jakarta, was flooded to a depth of 25 centimeters. Meanwhile, Jalan Cileduk Raya in Cipulir Village, South Jakarta, was flooded to a depth of 10 centimeters.

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) deployed personnel to monitor flood conditions and coordinated with the Water Resources (SDA) Agency, the Public Works Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency to pump out water and ensure the drainage system was functioning. The BPBD aims for the floodwaters to recede quickly.
