TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - FIFA has imposed sanctions on the Israeli Football Association (IFA) in response to a complaint filed by the Palestine Football Association (PFA) at the 74th FIFA Congress.
A statement from the world football association on Friday, March 20, 2026, citing Antara, noted that during the FIFA Congress, Palestine reported that Israel had engaged in discriminatory practices.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee determined that Israel had committed several violations of its obligations as a FIFA member.
Subsequently, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed three sanctions on Israel for breaches of Articles 13 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 15 (Discrimination and racist abuse) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC).
The first sanction requires Israel to pay a fine of 150,000 Swiss francs. The second sanction is a warning, while the third requires the implementation of a prevention plan in accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s directives.
For the third sanction, FIFA requires the Israeli side to display a large, clearly visible banner reading “Football Unites the World – No to Discrimination” alongside the Israel Football Association logo during three FIFA A-level home matches.
Additionally, within sixty days of this decision, Israel must allocate one-third of the fine payable as stated above toward the implementation of a comprehensive plan to ensure action against discrimination and prevent such incidents from recurring.
The plan must be approved by FIFA and must focus on the following areas: reforms, protocols, monitoring, and educational campaigns in stadiums and on official channels for an entire season.
The remainder of the fine must be paid within 30 days of notification of this decision.
The Israeli side is still given the opportunity to appeal this decision to the FIFA Appeal Committee.
