TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A research report conducted by global lender Citi predicts that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) could increase the global banking industry's profits by up to US$2 trillion by 2028. This projection was revealed by Batara Sianturi, Chief Executive Officer of Citi Indonesia, during the Citi Data Centre Day 2025 event.

"That's a significant figure. However, most importantly, this research shows the powerful impact of data and AI when used responsibly," Batara said at The Langham, Jakarta, on Monday, October 27, 2025. He added that Citi will therefore continue to expand its use of AI globally.

Batara believes that using AI can enhance productivity and efficiency within the company, creating vast opportunities for monetization. He reported that as of September 2025, Citi's AI tools have been used in 80 countries, a service that will continue to be expanded, including in Indonesia.

Citi, according to Batara, is committed to prioritizing AI adoption. Beyond enhancing company productivity, the technology is also expected to provide more personalized and innovative solutions for clients.

Batara also highlighted the role of data centers in optimizing the use of AI. Data centers are essential for supporting back-end work, ranging from cloud computing to AI models. "In countries like Indonesia, with rapidly growing digital adoption, reliable and sustainable data infrastructure becomes crucial," Batara explained.

Euginia Tahara-Xu, ASEAN Sales Lead of Citi Issuer Services Asia South, added that data centers can provide tailored solutions to meet complex client needs. "For example, customized escrow solutions are now increasingly important for data center operators in managing land acquisition payments and risks, while special account arrangements are increasingly used to facilitate private credit transactions," Euginia noted.
