TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta is preparing to celebrate the 2026 Chinese New Year with a series of festivals throughout the city. Each location offers unique attractions, from visual technology performances to deep cultural acculturation.
Bundaran HI area is the host of two major events. First, the Jakarta Chinese New Year Festival, which takes place from February 13th to 17th, 2026. The event offers 3D Lantern 12 Shio, Harmony Lantern Walk, Pagoda LED Harmony Light, and a Laser Show. Visitors can also enjoy performances by the God of Fortune, Cai Shen Ye, the Lion Dance, and the Barongsai Parade (lion dance).
In addition to the festival, there is also the Jakarta Chinese New Year Symphony event held specifically on February 13, 2026. The event features a spectacular performance combining around 50 traditional Chinese musical instruments and the Selendang Dendang Dance.
The public can enjoy celebrations that blend tradition and modernity. Below is a list of events where you can experience the festivities of the Chinese New Year.
2026 Chinese New Year Festivals in Jakarta
1. Jakarta Chinatown Festival
Taking place from February 14 to 17, the Jakarta Chinatown Festival is held at Anjungan DKI Jakarta Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. The festival presents Chinese New Year decorations, lion dance performances, and a showcase of Chinese and Betawi cultural acculturation.
2. Jakarta Chinese New Year Celebration
Located at the National Monument (Monas), this event takes place on February 16 and 17. The Jakarta Chinese New Year Celebration highlights the beauty of lights through video mapping and various art installations.
3. Jakarta Light Festival CNY Edition
The Old Town of Jakarta also enlivens the atmosphere with Lion Dance performances and Video Mapping attractions on historical buildings. This event takes place from February 16 to 17.
4. Jakarta Harmony
For art enthusiasts, Jakarta Harmony Powered by Jakarta City Branding will be present at Blok M Hub from February 14th to 17th, 2026, with a series of art installations.
5. Nusantara Chinese New Year Harmony
The celebration continues until the end of the month through Nusantara Chinese New Year Harmony at Lapangan Banteng from February 22nd to 28th, 2026. This agenda will be packed with Lantern Festivals, Culinary Markets, Creative Arts, and an Open Museum of Chinese Cultural Acculturation. The highlights are the Nusantara Chinese New Year Parade and the National Chinese New Year commemoration featuring the Red and White Cabinet.
The public can also visit the Jakarta Temple Festival, which is spread across the Kongmiao Temple TMII, Bio Hek Tjeng Sin Temple in Kebayoran Lama, and Cin Bu Kiong Temple in Kapuk Muara. The entire festivity will be officially closed through the Jakarta Cap Go Meh Festival on March 3, 2026, centered at the Pancoran China Town Point in West Jakarta.
