TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) has recorded an earthquake that occurred in Bandung City, West Java, on Friday morning, January 30, 2026. Initial information stated that the earthquake had a magnitude of 2.7.

BMKG revealed that the earthquake occurred precisely at 05:13 AM local time. Its epicenter was on land, 16 kilometers east of Bandung City, at a depth of 5 kilometers.

The impact of the earthquake was felt in Sukasari, Cileunyi, Cimenyan, Cilengkrang, and Tanjungsari. The intensity felt was in the range of II-III MMI. This means that, like an earthquake during the day, the tremors were felt strongest, similar to the vibrations felt inside a house when a truck passes by.

Some did not feel it because the earthquake only caused light hanging objects to sway.

In a statement shared, BMKG's Director of Earthquakes and Tsunamis, Daryono, mentioned that the earthquake was classified as shallow due to active fault activity. He said, "So far, there have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake."
