TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts rain will fall across the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area, except for the Seribu Islands, today, Sunday, February 15, 2026. The rain will be light in intensity.

However, the BMKG maintains an early warning for rain on Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The potential for moderate to heavy rain remains.

This early warning mirrors the one issued by the BMKG yesterday, Saturday, February 14, 2026. Tomorrow, Monday, February 16, 2026, the early warning will be raised to Alert due to the potential for heavy to very heavy rain.

Today, the BMKG issued a heavy to very heavy rain alert status for North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Banten, West Java, Central Java, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

According to the BMKG, the Asian monsoon is still predicted to be active, supplying significant air masses and moving water vapor towards Indonesia. The Asian monsoon is identified by the dominant northeasterly wind flow from the Asian mainland towards Indonesia.

"This condition is reinforced by the Surge Index and CENS (Cross Equatorial Northerly Surge), which have the potential to experience significant increases," read the BMKG's statement in its Weekly Weather Outlook for February 13-19, 2026. A surge is a gust of cold wind from Siberia that reaches Indonesian territory, while a CENS is a surge that crosses the equator.

Furthermore, cyclonic circulation is reported to still have the potential to develop in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh, the Indian Ocean southwest of Lampung, and around Kalimantan. With air humidity remaining high, these conditions have the potential to significantly increase rainfall in parts of Indonesia.

Jakarta, in the weather outlook, is included in the list of areas advised to be on alert for heavy to very heavy rain for the period of February 13-15.
