TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has declared a state of emergency in Bali for the next week due to the flooding that has hit the island since Wednesday, September 10, 2025. Areas heavily affected by the flooding include Denpasar, Jembrana, Badung, and Gianyar.
Head of BNPB, Suharyanto, initially stated that the state of emergency would last for two weeks. However, this was later amended to one week due to the less severe conditions of the disaster. He stated, "But because the nature of the disaster is not too significant, it will be corrected to just one week," as quoted by Antara.
Suharyanto reassured the public not to be alarmed by this status. He explained that the declaration of a state of emergency is for administrative purposes to facilitate disaster management. With this status, the government can immediately take steps such as rehabilitation and post-disaster reconstruction.
Initially, BNPB will distribute relief aid worth Rp1 billion, including a rubber boat and engine, 300 packages of basic foodstuffs, 200 blankets, 200 mattresses, three units of 2HP water pumps, two refugee tents, and 50 family tents.
Suharyanto mentioned that this assistance is likely to increase as flood management continues. "Tomorrow, the displaced people might need more clothes, underwear, and basically all the necessities of the affected community, which we will provide," he said.
The TNI Lieutenant General explained that the flash floods engulfing the island were caused by high rainfall due to the Rossby equatorial wave. Heavy rain has been pouring in the region for the past two days.
As of Wednesday night, BNPB reported nine fatalities, six missing persons, and 202 households or 620 individuals affected by the Bali floods as of Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 6:45 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Times). Suharyanto stated, "The distribution of relief aid will continue round the clock."
