TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four teams have secured their places in the quarter-finals of the 2025/2026 Champions League after completing the second leg of the round of 16 on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Arsenal advanced convincingly, while Sporting CP staged a dramatic comeback.
Real Madrid eliminated Manchester City after a 2-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium. Los Blancos were already ahead 3-0 in the first leg, and they were further advantaged when Bernardo Silva received a red card in the second leg. Vinicius Junior scored two goals, while City briefly equalized through Erling Haaland. Madrid eventually progressed with a comfortable 5-1 aggregate score.
PSG displayed their dominance with a 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Two quick goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola early in the match immediately dismantled the home team's resistance, before Senny Mayulu added a goal in the second half. Les Parisiens advanced with a convincing 8-2 aggregate score.
Arsenal secured their quarter-final ticket after defeating Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Gunners ensured a 3-1 aggregate victory thanks to goals from Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice. In the quarter-finals, Arsenal will face Sporting CP.
The biggest drama unfolded in Portugal when Sporting CP turned the tables with a 5-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt. Trailing 0-3 on aggregate, Sporting scored three goals to force extra time. Additional goals from Maxi Araujo and Rafael Nel secured the team a 5-3 aggregate victory.
There are still four other second leg matches to be held early Thursday, March 19, 2026. These include Barcelona vs. Newcastle United and Liverpool vs. Galatasaray.
