TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Futsal Team has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC Asian Futsal Cup after defeating Kyrgyzstan with 5-3 in the second match of Group A at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, on Thursday night, January 29, 2026.
Indonesia's goals were scored by Mochammad Iqbal, Firman Adriansyah from a penalty kick, Rio Pangestu, Ardiansyah Nur, and Israr Megantara. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan licked back with two goals from Makhmadaminov Shokhrukh and one penalty by Alimov Maksat.
This victory has earned Hector Souto's team six points from two matches, after previously defeating South Korea in the opening match. This result ensures the Garuda squad's advancement to the quarterfinals.
Indonesia will next compete for the Group A title against Iraq, who has also secured a spot in the last eight. The decisive match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 07:00 p.m. local time, again at the Indonesia Arena. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan is confirmed to be eliminated after suffering two consecutive defeats, following South Korea, who packed their bags earlier.
From the early minutes, as quoted from Skor.id, Indonesia immediately exerted pressure and created several opportunities through Mochammad Iqbal, Brian Ick, and Rio Pangestu. However, Kyrgyzstan unexpectedly took the lead in the sixth minute through a shot by the team captain, Makhmadaminov Shokhrukh.
Indonesia quickly responded. A minute later, Iqbal evened the score through a header from Rizki Xavier's cross. Approaching halftime, Garuda turned the tables after Firman Adriansyah successfully executed a penalty due to a foul.
Entering the second half, Indonesia ramped up the offense. Rio Pangestu widened the lead after receiving a cross from the right side. However, the home team's concentration momentarily dropped, giving Kyrgyzstan room to bounce back. The visitors scored two consecutive goals through Makhmadaminov and a penalty by Alimov Maksat, bringing the score to a draw once again.
During the critical minutes, Indonesia's mentality shone through once more. Ardiansyah Nur put Garuda ahead with a powerful long-range shot, before Israr Megantara secured the 5-3 victory after capitalizing on Kyrgyzstan's goalkeeper's mistake.
Indonesia still had several chances in the final minutes, but the score remained unchanged until the end of the match.
