TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Adies Kadir, has been inaugurated as a Constitutional Court Justice. The oath-taking ceremony was led by President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

During the ceremony, Adies declared his commitment to uphold the Constitution during his tenure. "By Allah, I swear to fulfill the duties of a constitutional justice to the best of my ability, upholding the 1945 Constitution and complying with the law with full responsibility," said Adies in front of Prabowo.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, Adies officially replaced the previous constitutional justice, Arief Hidayat, who retired on February 3, 2026. Adies' inauguration was based on the Presidential Decree Number 9/P Year 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Constitutional Justices submitted by the parliament.

Adies Kadir's inauguration was attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and several ministers including: Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correction Yusril Ihza Mahendra; Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas; and Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanudin.

The constitutional justices also witnessed Adies' inauguration at the Presidential Palace. Among them were the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Suhartoyo, as well as other members of the constitutional court justices, such as Saldi Isra, Daniel Yusmic Pancastaki Foekh, and Guntur Hamzah.

The DPR appointed Adies Kadir to replace Arief Hidayat as a constitutional justice in January 2026. Arief, who has been a constitutional justice since 2013, entered retirement this year.

The DPR held two fit and proper tests to select a replacement for Arief, one in August last year for Inosentius Samsul. But the parliament annulled the decision last month and held another fit and proper test for Adies Kadir.

Adies resigned from Golkar Party to become a constitutional court justice, not long before his fit and proper test at the DPR.

Adies' track record as a lawmaker was marked by controversy, as his statement about lawmakers' salary triggered major protests in the country. The series of demonstrations escalated when an online motorcycle taxi driver was run over and killed by police vehicle.

Today, Adies Kadir is sworn in as a constitutional court justice alongside the inauguration of the new Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung. Juda replaced Thomas Djiwandono, Prabowo's nephew, who became the deputy governor of Bank Indonesia, a post previously held by Juda.
