TEMPO.CO, JakartaThough we have already been treated to one celestial show, night sky events in November are still far from over, stretching not just three or five nights, but nine more throughout the month. From the super Beaver Moon in the coming days to the Hyades star cluster rising toward the end of the month, stargazers are in for a month filled with breathtaking cosmic sights.

Citing National Geographic, here are the nine night sky events in November to watch.

9 Night Sky Events in November

1. The Southern Taurid meteor shower - November 4–5

Not set to return until 2032, the Southern Taurid meteor shower is one of the unmissable night sky events in November. Reaching its second peak this year, this low-frequency meteor shower falls within a “swarm year,” which can double the number of visible meteors per hour. As a result, the night sky is expected to shine even brighter, with the best viewing window stretching from the night of November 4 to the early hours of November 5.

2. Super Beaver Moon - November 4–5

Qualified as a supermoon, the Beaver Moon is the brightest and nearest full moon of 2025. This sky event will treat viewers to an easy-to-spot spectacle. It will reach peak illumination at 13:19 UTC on November 5, though it will be fully visible on the nights of November 4 and 5. It’s definitely among the spectacles you won’t want to miss, especially since the next return won’t be until November 24, 2026.

3. Close pass of the Moon and the Pleiades - November 6

On the night of November 6,  the moon and the Pleiades star cluster will appear less than a degree apart, or just 49 arcminutes. Known as the Seven Stars, the Pleiades is an open star cluster comprising more than 1,000 young stars. But despite its name, only six of its brightest stars are visible to the naked eye, creating one of the sky’s most recognizable patterns.

4. The Northern Taurid meteor shower - November 11–12

Like the Southern Taurids, the Northern Taurids will peak with a low frequency of just five meteors per hour. Still, its role as the second meteor this November makes it a must-see, especially since the two showers overlap this year. This increases the odds of bright fireballs.

5. Leonid meteor shower - November 17–18

Within a couple of days, another meteor shower is ready to greet stargazers: the Leonid meteor shower. Peaking overnight from November 17 to 18, this yearly celestial event is a result of Earth crossing the path of Comet Tempel-Tuttle’s debris. Though it’s not a rare encounter, the Leonid meteor shower remains a spectacle that never loses its charm.

6. A micro new moon - November 20

The term micro for November 20’s moon stems from the moon being near lunar apogee, the farthest point in its orbit from Earth. As a result, this micro new moon appears about 7 percent smaller, rendering it essentially invisible to stargazers. Its absence of moonlight is an advantage because the completely dark sky serves as the perfect canvas for viewing deep-sky objects, such as star clusters and distant galaxies.

7. Uranus at opposition - November 21

On November 21, from Earth's perspective, Uranus will reach opposition; it will be situated directly opposite the Sun. This event will appear as a star in the constellation Aries, with a magnitude of +5.6. But with binoculars or a small telescope, Uranus will appear as a pale blue-green disk.

8. The Hyades star cluster - November 27

Even towards the month’s end, the lineup of must-see night sky events in November still goes on. At midnight on November 27, the Hyades star cluster forms a V-shape pattern in the constellation Taurus, one that resembles a bull’s face.

9. Return of seasonal constellations across both hemispheres

Beyond these specific events, November also welcomes the seasonal return of iconic constellations across both hemispheres. Among the rising constellations are Orion and Taurus.

As November unfolds, the night sky promises a remarkable series of celestial wonders. Whether you're an avid astronomer or simply enjoy pausing to admire the cosmos, this month offers countless reasons to look up.
