TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo has inspected post-disaster handling in Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra. Dedi highlighted the limitations of infrastructure which have left several locations isolated in Central Tapanuli.
"There are still six hamlets that are completely isolated. The access is only through (motor) trail or on foot," Dedi said in a written statement on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
Dedi stated that the local police operational facilities are limited, hence the assistance has not been optimal. According to Dedi, the police will deploy five excavator heavy equipment to help open access to the isolated hamlets.
Dedi mentioned that currently there are 150 Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel deployed to assist in the post-disaster recovery at the location. However, there are 1,500 reserve personnel ready to be deployed. "If more are needed, we are ready to deploy additional reinforcements," he said.
The reserve personnel are being deployed to strengthen the flood disaster management in the Aceh Tamiang and Aceh Utara regions. They can also be deployed to several affected areas in North Sumatra and West Sumatra. The reinforcement of personnel is also planned to continue from January to February 2026, in accordance with the developments in the field.
Prior to this, Dedi also visited the disaster site in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh. In the location, Dedi also highlighted some unmet needs of the refugees. According to him, the police along with several other institutions will gradually help fulfill the needs of the refugees.
