Based on BMKG analysis, the epicenter was located in the Indian Ocean, 53 kilometers southeast of the center of Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The epicenter was at a depth of 31 kilometers. "The earthquake was caused by active fault activity," said Hartanto, Head of BMKG Region II Tangerang, in a written statement following the earthquake.

According to public reports, the earthquake's impact was felt in Bayah, Pangalengan, Pelabuhan Ratu, and Cidolog, with an intensity of III on the MMI scale. The tremors were felt inside homes, as if a truck had passed by.

In Cidadap and Depok, the tremors were felt at intensity II on the MMI scale, meaning only a few people felt them and caused light hanging objects to sway.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), there have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake. There has also been no aftershock activity. The BMKG urges the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unsubstantiated rumors.

This earthquake, which struck the southern coast of Java, is the latest earthquake to be felt throughout Indonesia. The BMKG previously recorded two tremors in Bombana, Southeast Sulawesi. The earthquakes occurred twice, at 4:02 a.m. and 4:19 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, with magnitudes of 3.3 and 2.5, respectively.
