TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The rainfall that has been pouring over Jakarta and its surrounding areas since early Friday, January 30, 2026, has caused floods in various regions. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that as of 04:00 AM, the floods had submerged dozens of neighborhood units (RT).
"39 neighborhood units in Jakarta are affected by flood today," said the Head of the Data and Information Center of BPBD Jakarta, Mohamad Yohan, in a written statement on Friday.
He mentioned that East Jakarta was the most affected area by the Jakarta floods this morning. Floodwaters ranging from 50 to 250 centimeters inundated 21 neighborhood units in that area.
Eight neighborhood units in West and South Jakarta were affected by floods due to extreme rainfall and the overflow of the Ciliwung and Mookervart rivers.
Yohan stated that the water level in South Jakarta was the highest, ranging from 100 to 300 centimeters. Meanwhile, in West Jakarta, the water reached a height of 20-30 centimeters.
"For North Jakarta, 2 neighborhood units were affected with 20-30 centimeters of floodwater due to high rainfall and the overflow of the Nagrak River," he added.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Provincial Government announced the extension of the work from home (WFH) and distance learning policies until February 1. This decision was made after the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted that high rainfall is likely to continue in the region for the next few days.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that they are also preparing for further weather modification operations (OMC) should the rain intensify and worsen the floods.
"Since the rainfall is expected to continue and OMC may be necessary, I have approved the implementation of OMC if needed," Pramono said on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
