1. Indonesia Readies 8,000 Peacekeepers After Joining Trump's Board of Peace
Indonesian Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak said the military is readying approximately 8,000 peacekeeping troops to be deployed to conflict areas abroad, such as Gaza, Palestine. But Maruli admitted that the numbers remain an estimate and emphasized that the troops would operate under a brigade.
"[Deploying] a brigade, likely around 5,000 to 8,000 [personnel]. But nothing is set in stone yet. So, the numbers aren't final thus far," said Maruli after a meeting between TNI and the National Police leaders at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, February 9, 2026.
According to Maruli, the troop deployment is still being coordinated, and the authorized organizer of the peace mission will inform the numbers of soldiers required to the TNI Headquarters. This brief will then be forwarded to the Indonesian Army Headquarters.
2. Moody's Downgrades Outlook for 5 Indonesian Banks to Negative
The debt rating agency Moody's has downgraded the outlook for five major banks in Indonesia from stable to negative. The five banks are Bank Mandiri, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), Bank Central Asia (BCA), and Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN).
This downgrade is consistent with the change in Indonesia's credit rating outlook from stable to negative.
"This rating change primarily reflects the negative outlook on Indonesia's Baa2 credit rating, which reflects an increased risk to Indonesia's policy credibility, as reflected in the reduced predictability and coherence in the policy-making process, together with less effective policy communication over the past year," Moody's stated in its announcement, quoted on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
3. Prabowo Invited to Trump's Board of Peace First Meeting
Indonesia's Presidential Palace said it has received an invitation to the inaugural meeting of the Trump-initiated Board of Peace, scheduled for February 19, 2026.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed the invitation, but could not yet confirm whether President Prabowo Subianto would attend. "We will announce once it's certain," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, February 9, 2026.
If Prabowo decides to leave for the United States, the minister hopes the head of state could also sign the tariff deal with Donald Trump. "We want both to happen," said the Gerindra Party politician.
