Supreme Court on Depok Judges' Arrests: 'Painful, But Thank You KPK'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Supreme Court spokesperson Yanto expressed his appreciation to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for the sting operation against judges and court staff at the District Court of Depok. The anti-graft agency flagged signs of bribery in the handling of the Tapos land dispute.

"We are grateful for KPK, although it's painful, this incident helps expedite the Supreme Court's efforts to clean up corrupt judges within the Supreme Court who are still involved in judicial corruption," said Yanto, who also serves as the Head of the Supervisory Chamber of the Supreme Court, during a press conference on Monday, February 9, 2026.

The bribery case involved several judges at the Depok Court who were caught in a sting operation on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

KPK investigators arrested the Chief of Depok Court I Wayan Eka Mariarta in the operation. Four other people were also arrested: Deputy Chief of the Depok Court, Bambang Setyawan; Court Bailiff, Yohansyah Maruanaya; the President Director of PT Karabha Digdaya or PT KD, Trisnadi Yulrisman; and the Head Corporate Legal of PT KD, Berliana Tri Ikusuma.

This case stemmed from an Rp850 million payment between the chief and deputy chief of the Depok Court and PT Karabha Digdaya to expedite the execution of a 2024 court ruling on a land dispute.

In February 2026, the handover of Rp850 million took place at a golf course. The funds were sourced from the disbursement of a check based on a fictitious invoice from a consulting company. The KPK conducted a sting operation during the transaction.

The suspects are charged with Article 605 letter a and/or Article 606 number (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with the Corruption Law. In the sting operation last week, KPK seized Rp850 million in cash.

Supreme Court spokesperson Yanto said the institution has taken various preventive measures against corruption practices, including through the 'Smart Majelis' policy and a strict judicial leadership promotion system. In addition, the MA has also formed a Special Supervisory Task Force and implemented a one-stop integrated service to minimize direct interactions between justice seekers and court officials.

However, Yanto admitted that there are still judges who are tempted and betray the institution's integrity. The Supreme Court will request temporary dismissal to President Prabowo Subianto against the judges and court staff involved in the case.

"If they are later found guilty based on a legally binding decision, the judges will be dishonorably dismissed. The same applies to court officials," said Yanto.
