TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said that a successful nation is one that can achieve peace. One way to achieve peace, according to the head of state, is through unity between ulema, or religious leaders and government leaders.

Prabowo conveyed this while attending the inauguration of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) board for the 2025-2030 period at Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta, Saturday, February 7, 2026.

According to Prabowo, the presence of religious leaders and government officials today symbolizes unity. He admitted to feeling proud to be the president.

Prabowo claimed he was elected for the interests of the Indonesian people.

The president also highlighted the inauguration of the MUI board at Istiqlal Mosque, stating that the mosque is a symbol of unity and the spirit to become an independent, sovereign nation.

"This mosque is a symbol of the spirit of Indonesia as a nation to protect its people," he said on Saturday morning in Jakarta.

The Chair of the Organizing Committee, who is also the Head of the Disaster Management Division of MUI, Nusron Wahid, stated that this agenda is held amidst waves of troubles that struck the nation, especially floods and landslides. Therefore, one of the series of activities in the inauguration event today is a joint prayer.

"The joint prayer for the safety of the nation is a spiritual effort as well as a message of unity and empathy for our brothers and sisters affected by disasters," said Nusron Wahid, as quoted from MUI Digital, Friday, February 6, 2026.

The series of prayers are led by several religious leaders and figures, including KH Abdul Manan Ghani, KH Mahfud Assirun, Habib Ali bin Abdurrahman Al Habsyi, Habib Ahmad bin Ali Assegaf, and Ustadz Abdul Somad.

Meanwhile, the Inauguration of the MUI Board for the 2025-2030 Period will be led by the Chair of MUI KH Anwar Iskandar. This event is also attended by leaders of Islamic civil society organizations across Indonesia as a symbol of togetherness between religious leaders, government officials, and the people in nurturing the safety and unity of the nation.
