Prabowo Meets Australia's Deputy PM for Strategic Talks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Australia, Richard Marles on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. The friendly meeting took place at Prabowo's private residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the meeting was a moment of friendship between two old friends who now hold strategic positions in their respective governments.

Teddy mentioned that during the meeting, both leaders discussed and exchanged views on several important issues.

"The meeting was warm and full of friendliness, confirming the close personal relationship between the two leaders," Teddy said in a written statement on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

In addition to discussing strategic issues, Prabowo and Marles talked about regional dynamics relevant to both countries.

"They had a relaxed conversation and exchanged views on important issues, and this meeting symbolizes the closeness and close cooperation between Indonesia and Australia," said Teddy.

The personal relationship between Prabowo and Marles is said to be crucial to strengthening Indonesia's strategic partnership with Australia, particularly with regard to maintaining regional stability and expanding cooperation in various fields.
