TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to vacation at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor regency, West Java.
Prabowo extended the invitation when he received Albanese at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Prabowo offered Albanese a 2-3 week vacation in Hambalang. "If possible, I would like to invite the Prime Minister to stay at my residence in Hambalang. I will take him horseback riding," said Prabowo.
Albanese laughed upon hearing Prabowo's invitation. He expressed gratitude for the Indonesian government's welcome during the bilateral visit to the neighboring country. He mentioned that he indeed enjoys horseback riding. "As a horseback rider, I am a good Prime Minister," Albanese said.
Albanese mentioned that this visit is his fourth to Indonesia as prime minister. Last, he met Prabowo during the president's inauguration last October.
"I came to our region first because it is our top priority," Albanese said in a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Albanese stated that Australia has an important relationship with Indonesia. He said that no country is more important for the prosperity, security, and stability of the Indo-Pacific region than Indonesia.
Furthermore, Albanese mentioned that his government launched an economic strategy called "Invested: Australia's South East Asia to 2040" in Jakarta two years ago. According to him, Southeast Asia is the fastest-growing region in human history, and Indonesia is the economic growth center in Southeast Asia.
"Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world and is projected to have the fifth largest economy by the end of the next decade," he added.
