TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division III Palembang recorded the sale of 15,793 tickets for the 2577/2026 Chinese New Year long holiday. Aida Suryanti, Public Relations Manager of KAI Regional Division III Palembang, stated that the data was collected on February 8, 2026, for the travel period from February 13-18, 2026, in South Sumatra and the surrounding area.

"During the long Chinese New Year holiday, public demand for train services was quite high. This is evident from significant ticket sales and occupancy rates on several favorite routes, which exceeded 100 percent," Aida said, as quoted by Antara.

She explained that two subsidized economy-class trains, or public service obligation (PSO), recorded the highest occupancy rates: the Bukit Serelo train, traveling from Kertapati to Lubuk Linggau (round trip), with ticket sales reaching 116 percent. Then, the Rajabasa train, traveling from Kertapati to Tanjungkarang (round trip), had 115 percent.

According to him, the high occupancy rate indicates that trains remain the preferred mode of transportation for the public, as they are considered safe, comfortable, and punctual, especially during long holidays. However, KAI Divre III Palembang stated that alternative travel options are still available, such as the Sindang Marga train, which runs from Kertapati to Lubuk Linggau (round trip).

Currently, ticket sales for the Sindang Marga train for the six-day long holiday period, or Chinese New Year, remain at around 47 percent for both executive and business class. "We urge people who haven't yet secured tickets to consider the Sindang Marga train, as there are still many seating options available," he said.

KAI Divre III Palembang also reminded customers to book train tickets through official KAI channels, such as the Access by KAI app, the official KAI website, and authorized sales partners to avoid ticket shortages and potential fraud.
