PT KAI Commuter introduces a new service in the form of special trains for Indonesian farmers and traders operating on the Merak-Rangkasbitung route. These trains will have 14 trips each day.

"The farmer and trader train service is an innovation in transportation that meets the real needs of the community and is the latest breakthrough from the KAI Group," said Karina Amanda, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter as quoted in a written statement on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Karina stated that this innovation is an effort by the KAI Group to support the economic movement of the community while expanding more inclusive public transport access. This service will operate on the Economy Class Passenger Train (K3) which is integrated into the Commuter Line Merak train series.

Karina mentioned that initially, these trains will serve the journey from Merak Station to Rangkasbitung Station with a total of 14 trips per day. The train facilities are specially designed to support the activities of farmers and traders.

"The seats are installed parallel to the walls on the left and right sides, allowing passengers to safely place their goods or merchandise in front. The train doors are made wider to facilitate the loading and unloading of items," she said.

This special economy train has 73 seats and stops at all stations on the Merak-Rangkasbitung route. This service is expected to facilitate the mobility of farmers and traders in the Banten region, such as Serang, Lebak, and Pandeglang, in selling their agricultural products and strengthening the local supply chain.

Karina continued that for passengers who want to continue their journey to Jakarta and its surrounding areas, KAI Commuter provides a direct connection through the Rangkasbitung-Tanah Abang Commuter Line. However, she reminded that large baggage is only allowed on the first departure schedule from Rangkasbitung to Jakarta.

Currently, KAI Commuter together with the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation is preparing the technical and regulatory aspects of this service. "We continue to coordinate with the Directorate General of Railways to ensure all aspects such as facilities, technicalities, and regulations so that this service truly becomes a real solution for the community," said Karina.
