Job Loss Claims Rise 100% by March 2025, Says BPJS Ketenagakerjaan

3 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Social Security Administrator Agency, known as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, has recorded a yearly increase in claims for the Job Loss Guarantee (JKP). This was  revealed by the Deputy of Communication for BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Oni Marbun, during a discussion titled "Quo Vadis Online Motorcycle Taxis."

"There has been a 100 percent increase year-on-year, comparing March 31, 2024, to March 31, 2025," Oni said at the BP Jamsostek Plaza in Jakarta on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

As of March 31, 2025, JKP benefits have been provided to more than 35,000 workers who have experienced job layoffs. The total amount paid out is Rp161 billion, which is a 48 percent increase from the previous year.

Oni also pointed out that this number might not reflect the exact current number of workers who have been laid off. This is because some people who are entitled to the JKP benefit do not claim it immediately after losing their jobs.

Meanwhile, claims for the Old Age Security (JHT) program reached 854,000 by March 2025. This figure shows a 26.2 percent increase compared to the previous year. The total amount paid out is Rp13.1 trillion, a 22.5 percent increase year-on-year.

Regarding the recent trend of job layoffs, Oni stated that their agency always prioritizes careful investment to provide returns for the participants. "We maintain the strength of our funds at a level that can provide returns, so we remain prepared," he said.

The Ministry of Manpower recorded approximately 18,610 workers experiencing layoffs in January and February 2025. This number of layoffs is consistent with the closure of the textile company PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk, also known as Sritex, on March 1, 2025.

The government is currently in the process of forming a special task force for layoffs to address the concerns of workers regarding the widespread issue of unfair job terminations.

The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, stated that the Presidential Decree (Keppres) to establish the Layoff Task Force, along with task forces for deregulation and negotiations with the United States, has been submitted to the State Secretariat.

"The Keppres has been finalized, and we have submitted it to the State Secretariat," Susiwijono told Tempo when met at the Ministry of Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. He expected the signing process for the presidential decrees of all three task forces to be completed this week.
