TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Erick Frendriz, stated that the driver of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) operational car, who hit the students of SDN (elementary school) Kalibaru 01, Cilincing, North Jakarta, was not fit to drive.

"He was not fit to drive at that time. We are still conducting a urine test, alcohol test, and will announce clearly that he was not fit," he said when confirmed by Tempo at Koja Regional Hospital, North Jakarta, on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Meanwhile, based on the preliminary investigation of the crime scene, Cilincing Police Chief AKP Bobi Subasri said there is preliminary suspicion that the driver mistakenly stepped on the wrong pedal. "He intended to step on the brake pedal, but suddenly stepped on the gas pedal," Bobi said when met at SDN 01 Kalibaru on Thursday afternoon, December 11, 2025.

The driver increased the speed before entering the school yard. He briefly stopped at the entrance but suddenly accelerated.

The Director of Traffic at the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Komarudin, who was also present at the crime scene, stated that the speed increase was observed from the CCTV footage. Currently, the police are still conducting a thorough investigation of the driver at the Cilincing Police Headquarters. "The driver has been secured, and an investigation is ongoing," said Komarudin.

Previously, Vice Governor Rano Karno stated that 21 people were injured and taken to the hospital. As of this afternoon, six people are receiving treatment at Koja Regional Public Hospital in North Jakarta.

One of them is a teacher from SDN Kalibaru 01 who suffered a broken leg. Meanwhile, the others are elementary school students, one of them named Muhammad Prilio, a 4th-grade student who was seriously injured and is being treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for observation. He lost 18 teeth due to the accident.

The MBG car plowed into the line of students from SDN Kalibaru 01 Cilincing, North Jakarta, who were gathering on the field on Thursday morning, December 11, 2025. Several children were hit by the car carrying the MBG program for distribution to students.
