TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita inaugurated the opening of the largest solar cell and solar panel factory in Indonesia, PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia, in the Kendal Special Economic Zone, Central Java, on Thursday.
According to Agus Gumiwang, the existence of a factory that integrates the production of solar cells and solar panels in one location is part of the efforts to support a new and renewable energy ecosystem
In the Business Plan for the Supply of Electricity (RUPTL) 2025-2034, he said, the government targets to fulfill renewable energy sources by 52.8 gigawatts (GW). Of this amount, 17.1 GW is targeted to be supplied from solar power plants (PLTS) by 2034.
"By 2025 to 2029, it is expected that the annual production will be around 0.8 GW and will increase to 1.9 GW per year by 2034," said Agus Gumiwang during the opening on Thursday, June 19.
In efforts to realize the new renewable energy supply, according to Agus Gumiwang, it is crucial for Indonesia to receive contributions from the domestic solar panel industry.
Thus, one of the tasks to complete is to raise the competitiveness of domestically made solar module products, which are still lagging behind imported products. "The price of local PLTS is still 30 to 45 percent higher than imported products," said Agus Gumiwang.
Agus Gumiwang hopes the establishment of an integrated solar panel and solar module factory will help meet domestic needs and reduce dependence on imported products.
"In the future, the solar panel industry is expected not only to be a supplier but also to be a catalyst for the creation of a sovereign renewable industry," said Agus Gumiwang.
Vice President Director of PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia, Lokita Prasetya, said that this factory has a production capacity of 1 GB per year, with the power produced reaching 720 Wp per panel.
The factory, with an investment worth Rp1.5 trillion, according to Lokita, is targeted to increase production to 3 GW per year. This largest solar panel technology factory is ready to support the development of solar power plants in Indonesia.
As the ecosystem of new renewable energy grows, Lokita believes that the production cost of solar power plants will come easier and of better quality.
