TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Udinese has entered the race to sign Jay Idzes, captain of the Indonesian national team, during the summer transfer window. The Italian Serie A club is revamping its defense as part of the preparations for the 2025-2026 season.
Jay Idzes has become the primary target to reinforce the back line, potentially replacing Jaka Bijol, who has been heavily linked with a move. Idzes is seen as an ideal successor to Bijol, especially due to his background as a midfielder, making him adept at building attacks from the back line.
Citing from the Italian media outlet Messaggero Veneto, Idzes has long been the top choice to replace Bijol, who is nearing an exit from the club due to interest from AC Milan and Leeds United.
However, according to Messaggero Veneto, Udinese's pursuit of the 25-year-old defender may not go smoothly. Bologna and Fiorentina are also actively persuading Idzes to join their respective clubs.
The interest in Idzes is not only due to his ability to distribute the ball from the back but also his prowess in individually marking opponents, a strength he demonstrated in 35 appearances with Venezia in the 2024-2025 Serie A season, including scoring a goal.
Bologna's interest is driven by coach Vincenzo Italiano, who received a direct recommendation from Sam Beukema, a Dutch player set to join Napoli and a former teammate of Idzes at Go Ahead Eagles.
Aware that the competition to secure Idzes is intensifying, Udinese is preparing an alternative by targeting 26-year-old Polish defender Przemyslaw Winiewski, currently playing for Spezia.
Prior to this, Idzes was also rumored to have attracted interest from several top Italian clubs. Two weeks ago, one of the giants in Serie A, Inter Milan, identified Idzes as their primary target to strengthen their defense.
According to the Italian media outlet Tuttosport, Inter sees Idzes as a potential replacement for the 37-year-old Francesco Acerbi. Inter Milan's talent scouts were reportedly at the Venezia vs. Lecce match.
Powerhouse Juventus is also linked with Idzes. Italian journalist Antonello Angelini mentioned that Venezia set a price of 20 million euros for Idzes. Idzes' historic goal against Juventus in December 2024 was cited as one of the reasons for the club's interest.
Furthermore, another Italian Serie A team, Genoa, considers Idzes a potential replacement for Koni de Winter on the defensive line. Idzes' consistent performances against top strikers such as Romelu Lukaku of Napoli in March have made him an attractive target for this Serie A club.
According to TransferFeed, Torino is reportedly revisiting its interest in Idzes for the 2025 summer transfer window after showing interest in him the previous year. Torino's Sporting Director, Davide Vagnati, has included Idzes in the list of targets to strengthen the team's defense.
Currently, Jay Idzes is still under contract with Venezia, earning a salary of 300,000 euros, approximately Rp5.6 billion per season. The transfer process has been streamlined due to Venezia FC's relegation to Serie B next season.
As reported by Messaggero Veneto, Idzes has a special clause that facilitates the transfer if the club is relegated, as is the case now. Releasing him would require around 6 million euros (approximately Rp112 billion).
