TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – An Indonesian woman injured in a traffic accident in Singapore’s Chinatown has regained consciousness and is now in stable condition in the intensive care unit, the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore said on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

In response to inquiries from Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the embassy confirmed that the victim remains under intensive medical care at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) after sustaining serious injuries, including internal trauma and multiple fractures.

The embassy also confirmed that the woman’s six-year-old daughter died at the hospital at 12:44 p.m. on the day of the accident. An autopsy conducted by SGH determined the cause of death to be cranio-cerebral injuries.

Embassy Assistance and Family Support

The Indonesian Embassy said its representatives met with the victim’s family, including her husband and father, on Friday to express condolences and provide immediate assistance.

The embassy has continuously accompanied the family since the day of the incident, including throughout Feb 7, 2026, and has facilitated administrative arrangements related to the handling and repatriation of the deceased child,” the embassy said, adding that the girl’s funeral has since been held in Indonesia.

"The embassy continues to monitor the medical condition of the mother, while coordinating with SGH regarding her treatment."

Although the family has expressed a desire to eventually transfer her to Indonesia for further treatment, doctors have determined that she is not yet medically fit for evacuation.

The deputy head of mission and embassy staff met the family again on Monday to convey official condolences and coordinate further assistance, including the possibility of legal support if required.

Ongoing Police Investigation

The embassy also said it has been closely coordinating with the Singapore Police Force to follow developments in the investigation involving the driver.

The accident occurred on South Bridge Road near the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown at around 11:50 AM on Friday. Police initially said that two pedestrians, a six-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman, were taken to hospital conscious following the incident, although the girl later succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities later confirmed that the victims were an Indonesian mother and daughter who were visiting Singapore.

According to the embassy, the pair were crossing the road near an open parking area when the accident occurred. Witness accounts cited by local media outlet Mothership said a dark-colored BYD car was allegedly exiting the parking lot and turning right when it struck them.

The girl and her mother were crossing the street while the father was walking ahead, pushing a stroller carrying their two-year-old child.

Eyewitness Accounts and Arrest

Photos and videos circulating on social media showed a man holding the injured child while the mother lay on the road nearby. Bystanders were seen providing assistance, including shielding the victims from the sun while waiting for emergency services.

In one video posted on Facebook by user Nguyen Thi Hanh, the father was seen carrying his daughter and pleading for help. “My family… Please, God, why,” he was heard crying.

The female driver, a Singaporean, was seen exiting the vehicle after the incident. Social media claims alleged that she argued with the victim’s husband, although these claims have not been independently verified.

On Sunday, police said the 38-year-old female driver had been arrested for driving without due care and attention resulting in death. Earlier, authorities said she had been assisting with the investigation.

According to official data, traffic accidents in Singapore resulting in injuries and fatalities rose by 7.4 percent to 5,765 cases between January and September 2025, compared with 5,368 cases in the same period a year earlier.
