TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Oleh Soleh, a member of the Indonesian Commission I of the House of Representatives, condemned the joint Israeli-US attack that killed Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Oleg stated that the US-Israeli action constituted the assassination of a national leader and constituted a serious violation of international law. The PKB politician stated that the assassination could not be justified under any circumstances.

"The assassination of a national leader is a serious violation of international law. This is not only an attack on an individual, but also on the sovereignty of a nation," said Oleh Soleh in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Oleg assessed that the unprovoked attack by Israel and the United States (US) had sparked chaos and escalation. Therefore, the US-Israeli military aggression has tarnished the spirit of world peace and undermined international commitments to peace.

Oleg also highlighted how Israel and the United States have repeatedly attacked but have so far received strict sanctions from the international community. He urged the United Nations (UN) to immediately take optimal action against Israel and the United States.

Moreover, he said, Iran is a legitimate member of the United Nations, whose rights are guaranteed by international law and conventions. "The international community must not continue to allow practices that violate international law to occur without consequences. If left unchecked, the global order will be further damaged," he said.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after the United States and Israel launched a joint aggression against Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026. US President Donald Trump announced that the attack killed Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran retaliated by launching a wave of missiles and drones at Israel and several military bases in the Middle East where US troops operate.

The conflict shows no signs of abating. As reported by the Daily Mail on March 2, 2026, Donald Trump raised the possibility of war with Iran lasting for the next four weeks.

In the official statement by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there was no written statement condemning the attack by Israel and the United States (US) on Iran. The government expressed regret over the failure of negotiations between the US and Iran, which has resulted in military escalation in the Middle East region.
