TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs Coordination, Yusril Ihza Mahendra stated that the government will soon repatriate two British prisoners. They are Lindsay June Sandiford and Shahab Shahabadi.

Yusril said that both of them will be repatriated this week through Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. "There has been an agreement with the British government that they will be picked up in two to three days and will be flown from Denpasar to Dubai and then to Britain," said Yusril at the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) building, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Yusril said the repatriation of the two prisoners is due to a request from the British authorities to the Indonesian government. The request has also been coordinated with the Prosecutor's Office, the Directorate General of Corrections, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Although the repatriation of British prisoners has been approved, Yusril said the government has no plans to repatriate Indonesian citizens who are serving sentences in Britain. According to him, the plan to repatriate Indonesian prisoners abroad needs to be discussed first. "I think this issue needs to be discussed in a coordinated manner with all ministries," he said.

Lindsay June Sandiford and Shahab Shahabadi are prisoners who were convicted of drug abuse. They have been sentenced to death and life imprisonment, respectively.

Lindsay June Sandiford has served her sentence at Kerobokan Class IIA Correctional Institution in Bali. The British national has been detained for approximately 13 years since May 25, 2012.

According to Yusril, Lindsay, who is elderly, suffers from Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and severe hypertension. "She is in a rather serious condition and is already 68 years old," said Yusril at a press conference on October 31, 2025.

Meanwhile, Shahab Shahabadi is being repatriated due to skin disease and psychiatric disorders. "Due to these psychiatric issues, it is somewhat difficult to handle them in the correctional facility," said Yusril to the reporters.

Shahab has been serving his sentence at Kembangkuning Class IIA Correctional Institution, Nusa Kambangan. He was first detained on June 26, 2014, and has been imprisoned there for around 11 years.
