TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-17 national team suffered a crushing defeat against the Chinese U-17 team in their first friendly match at the Indomilk Arena, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Mierza Firjatullah and his teammates conceded seven unanswered goals.
In this match, the Garuda Muda squad was still coached by Nova Arianto, who was given the new task of coaching the U-20 national team after successfully guiding Indonesia to qualify for the 2025 U-17 World Cup. Mierza was part of the squad that competed in that World Cup and still plays for the U-17 national team.
In that match, as reported by Antara, the Indonesian U-17 team performed poorly from the first minute, punished by China with four goals in the first half, opened by Zhao Songyuan in the 16th minute. Their second goal came thanks to a quick attack by Wang Heyi in the 25th minute after capitalizing on a rebound.
Ukishima Bin's team increased their lead in the 42nd minute when Songyuan scored his second goal after dribbled past several defenders in the 42nd minute, followed by Shuai Weihao's goal in the 44th minute. These four goals gave China a 4-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Indonesia conceded again in the 53rd minute, when Weihao's second goal was scored on a rebound. After Noah Leo Duvert's goal was conceded for the fifth time, coach Nova Arianto introduced an additional striker, Nicholas Indra Mjoesund, midway through the second half. He had a chance in the 69th minute, which was blocked by a Chinese player.
Zhang Bolin scored to give China a six-goal lead. Indonesia attempted to reduce the deficit through substitute I Komang Semadi Sanjana Putra's effort from the left flank, but his shot sailed over the goal.
In stoppage time, substitute Ailikamu Yilihong added another goal to seal China's 7-0 victory.
The two teams will compete at the Indomilk Arena, Tangerang, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 6:30 PM WIB.
