TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the ministry has prepared 841 ships with a total capacity of around 3.2 million passengers to support maritime transportation during the 2026 Eid Al-Fitr. The fleet will serve various national routes during the homecoming and return flow of Eid Al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
"As part of the government's efforts to ensure fleet readiness and port services," said Dudy Purwagandhi in a written statement on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Preparing hundreds of ships ensures fleet readiness and port services, allowing the public to travel smoothly during the Eid Al-Fitr period.
Dudy Purwagandhi considers maritime transportation to have a strategic role, especially in serving the archipelago, remote, outermost, and border areas.
The Ministry of Transportation, he said, has taken a number of steps to ensure sufficient services. Safety tests have been conducted on various types of ships, including passenger ships, ferries, fast boats, traditional boats, and tourist boats.
As part of the economic stimulus and government support for the public, the government has again provided a free ticket program with a quota of more than 66,000 passengers. Registration for the departure period from March 11 to April 6, 2026, will open on March 6, 2026.
In addition, the government provides a 30 percent fare discount for all Public Service Obligation (PSO) class economy ship routes operated by PT Pelni. The discount covers more than 445,000 tickets.
Dudy Purwagandhi emphasizes that maritime safety is a top priority in organizing maritime transportation for the 2026 Eid Al-Fitr, in line with the high mobility of the public during the homecoming and return flow. Comprehensive inspections are carried out on ship seaworthiness, safety equipment, and crew competence.
Port facilities and infrastructure are also being made more ready, including passenger terminals, waiting rooms, health facilities, and easily accessible public information systems.
In terms of operations, the Ministry of Transportation emphasizes scheduling discipline, adding capacity when necessary, and optimizing ship traffic management. Coordination between the government, shipping operators, and other stakeholders is said to be continuously strengthened to maintain smooth services.
