TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Iran have agreed to expand scientific and academic cooperation in new technologies, including joint research and academic exchanges of students and lecturers, as well as collaboration in the food security sector.
As ANTARA reported, this emerged in a meeting between the Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto and the Iranian Deputy Minister of Science, Research, and Technology Masoud Shams-Bakhsh on the sidelines of the 13th BRICS Education Ministers' Meeting in Bhubaneswar, India, on Saturday, August 8.
On the occasion, Shams-Bakhsh emphasized that the long-standing cultural, historical, and religious ties between Iran and Indonesia are a strong foundation for deepening cooperation in education, research, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Meanwhile, Brian Yuliarto expressed Indonesia's willingness to expand joint research projects, postgraduate student and faculty exchanges, short-term learning opportunities, and academic programs. He also officially invited his Iranian counterpart, along with his high-level delegation, to visit Jakarta.
The two high-ranking officials then discussed scholarships, educational courses, and joint research collaborations in the sectors of climate change, food security, renewable energy, and agriculture.
They had a detailed discussion about ways to increase the participation of Iranian universities in the BRICS university network. Both parties also agreed to work together to reach a cooperation agreement and implement various proposed initiatives as early as possible.
