TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said the government has found no indication so far of a massive data breach involving 58 million Indonesian students, amid claims circulating on social media that the data had been leaked and traded on the dark web.
Speaking on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Pratikno said the allegation had been addressed by the Ministry of Education and Culture through its Data and Information Center (Pusdatin).
“Based on clarification from Pusdatin, there are no indications of a data leak originating from their system. However, the matter is still under investigation,” he was quoted as saying by Kompas.
Pratikno said the government is continuing to verify the claims and ensure the security of education data. The investigation involves multiple agencies, including the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
“At the moment, teams from BSSN, Komdigi, and the Ministry of Education and Culture are jointly conducting a thorough investigation,” he said.
Tempo has sought confirmation from Basic Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti, Deputy Basic Education Minister Atip Latipulhayat, and Higher Education, Science, and Technology Ministry Secretary General Togar Mangihut Simatupang.
Only Togar responded, saying he was still checking whether the alleged leaked data involved school students or higher education records.
“Let me verify first,” Togar said when contacted via WhatsApp on Tuesday.
The allegation first surfaced on the social media platform X on Sunday, February 8, 2026, triggering widespread discussion.
An account identified as @bint**** claimed that an individual using the alias “SN1F” was offering access to Indonesian student data for sale.
According to the post, the individual allegedly not only sold old data files but also offered a “special route” that would allow buyers to extract updated student data directly from government servers at any time.
The account also claimed that sample data shared showed a “very specific depth of information” and was continuously updated, rather than limited to historical records.
Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of the claims and say the investigation is ongoing.
