TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry will temporarily suspend ferry services on the Java-Bali and Lombok routes during Nyepi Day in March 2026. The temporary suspension will apply at Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi; Gilimanuk Port in Bali; Padang Bai Port in Bali; and Lembar Port in Lombok.
These operational adjustments are being implemented as part of national transportation regulations to maintain order and respect the observance of the Catur Brata Penyepian (Day of Silence) on the island of Bali. This temporary suspension is based on a ferry operational regulation letter from the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation, which regulates ferry transportation service adjustments during Nyepi Day.
Ferry operations will be temporarily suspended at Ketapang Port from March 18, 2026, at 5:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) to March 20, at 6:00 AM WIB. At Gilimanuk Port from March 19, at 5:00 AM WITA to March 20, at 6:00 AM WITA. Lembar Port will be closed from 9:00 PM WITA (Central Indonesian Time) on March 18th to 1:30 AM WITA on March 20th. Padangbai Port will be closed from 4:00 AM WITA on March 19th to 11:30 AM WITA on March 20th.
The Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, stated that this operational adjustment policy was implemented because Nyepi coincides with the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation period, which is expected to see a surge in public mobility. The government has prepared several traffic management schemes to anticipate movement during the period from March 13th to 29th.
These arrangements include optimizing the MB and LCM piers on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route, as well as operating alternative routes from Tanjung Wangi Port to Gilimas Port and Jangkar Port to Lembar Port. "This measure aims to distribute vehicle traffic so that it remains smooth, safe, and controlled during the peak homecoming period," said Aan in a written statement on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
In addition to vehicle diversions, the government has also implemented a delaying system through buffer zones on toll and non-toll roads, as well as geofencing within a 2.65-kilometer radius from Ketapang Port and 2 kilometers from Gilimanuk Port.
In line with this policy, ASDP ensures that ferry service readiness remains optimal for the Eid al-Fitr transportation period. ASDP President Director Heru Widodo emphasized that the company continues to strengthen operational readiness to ensure the safety and smooth flow of travel for the public.
"We are committed to always prioritizing the safety of our service users. We continue to take various anticipatory measures to ensure ferry services remain reliable and provide a sense of security for the public," said Heru.
