TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Japan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic economic partnership and strengthening the stability of the regional supply chain through the implementation of the Second Indonesia-Japan Cooperation Dialogue (IJCD).
As reported by Antara, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the IJCD meeting, held at the Ministry on Friday, was chaired by Indonesia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Arrmanatha C. Nasir, and Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister, Akahori Takeshi.
"During the meeting, the two parties agreed to strengthen the stability of regional supply chains and encourage collaboration in future sectors, including clean energy, the digital economy, and strategic infrastructure development," according to a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
This step is crucial for ensuring resilient and adaptive economic growth amid global uncertainty.
During the dialogue, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering collaboration in key sectors such as trade, investment, energy transition, the maritime economy, and strategic industrial development.
Japan is seen as a key partner in supporting Indonesia's economic transformation agenda through quality investments, industrial downstreaming, and sustainable development cooperation.
Indonesia and Japan emphasized the importance of cooperating on emerging technologies to strengthen competitiveness, innovation, and economic resilience amid accelerating global disruption.
The meeting reaffirmed the two countries' commitment to developing a robust, inclusive, and forward-looking economic partnership, not only for their own national interests, but also to promote stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
The first IJCD took place in Tokyo in 2021. This second meeting is a follow-up to the November 2025 2+2 meeting of the two countries' foreign and defense ministers.
"This meeting is an important opportunity to strengthen the direction of cooperation between the two countries amid increasingly complex global geo-economic dynamics," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote.
Diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Japan, established in 1958, have continued to show a significant upward trend. This trend began with the Strategic Partnership for a Peaceful and Prosperous Future in 2006 and continued with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.
Japan remains one of Indonesia's main economic partners. Total bilateral trade reached $32.07 billion in 2025, and realized investment reached $3.1 billion.
