TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has disclosed that one of its aircraft and 14 aircraft of its subsidiary, Citilink, are currently undergoing heavy maintenance. The airline acknowledged that the aviation industry is currently facing limitations in the supply of essential spare parts.
The Company Secretary stated that the maintenance is scheduled for completion this year. He also noted that the current limitations in the global supply chain for aircraft components are a challenge faced by nearly all operators in the aviation sector.
"[This situation is] causing the heavy maintenance process to take longer than usual," the Company Secretary explained in a public disclosure to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), as reported on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
This heavy maintenance is crucial to uphold the stringent safety standards and airworthiness of the aircraft operated by the company listed under the stock code GIAA. The Company Secretary further emphasized that this process is an integral part of the Garuda Indonesia Group's efforts to optimize its service delivery.
Despite the ongoing challenges within the global aviation industry, Garuda Indonesia Group is actively working to enhance its operational capacity. As an example, Garuda Indonesia has added four new narrow-body Boeing 737-800NG aircraft (registered as PK-GUF and PK-GUG) to its fleet since late 2024.
Furthermore, two additional aircraft, PK-GUH and PK-GUI, commenced operations in the second quarter of 2025. This expansion aligns with the recovery in travel demand and the increase in passenger numbers following the pandemic, as well as the growth of Indonesia's national tourism industry.
The management team assures that Garuda Indonesia's future operational capabilities are being managed to match the company's performance projections based on anticipated market demand. This strategic approach is also intended to ensure the sustainability of the Garuda Indonesia Group's aviation business.
"Garuda Indonesia is optimistic in its ongoing transformation to become a more adaptable and competitive airline, [committed to] providing safe and reliable air travel for the public," the Secretary concluded.
