TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three videos claiming that Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa would distribute social aid (bansos) to MSMEs and the people circulated on social media on January 1, 2026. The first video [archive] shows Minister Purbaya wearing a black suit and blue tie with the iNews logo. The 10-second video invites viewers to send a message to receive social aid.
In the second video, Purbaya, in a suit, promises social aid to those who send him messages via Messenger. And in the third video, he wears brown batik and repeats the same message. "Don't skip it because this video might be your fortune if it appears on your homepage. It's no coincidence," he said.
The three videos received thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments from internet users. But is the video actually of Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa distributing social aid to MSMEs and the Indonesian people?

FACT CHECK
Tempo verified the video using Google's reverse image search and an AI detection tool. The results showed that the figure of Purbaya in the circulating video had been altered using AI technology.
1st Video
The reverse image search results show that iNews previously broadcast Purbaya's interview on September 8, 2025. The original video is available on iNews's official Facebook and Instagram accounts.

In the original video, Purbaya commented on the plunge in the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) following President Prabowo's announcement of his finance minister's replacement. In the recording, he made no mention of social aid for MSMEs.

These findings were corroborated by verification using Hive Moderation's AI detection tool. The analysis revealed that the first video is 99.7 percent AI-generated.
2nd Video
Tempo discovered the second video manipulated Purbaya's photo from the official State Officials' Wealth Report (LHKPN) page using AI.

The black suit, white shirt, and red tie are visually identical. Hive Moderation's analysis concluded that the second video is 99 percent AI-generated.

3rd Video
The photo of Purbaya in the third video is identical to the fourth slide on the Ministry of Finance's post on its official Instagram account, @menkeuri.

At that time, Purbaya was attending a working meeting of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Budget Agency on September 18, 2025, to witness the ratification of the working committee's report on the 2026 State Budget Bill. Hive Moderation's analysis also concluded that the third video is 99.7 percent AI-generated.

CONCLUSION
Tempo's verification concluded that the claim that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa distributed social aid to MSMEs and the people is false.
