TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jeffrey Epstein, the billionaire and convicted sex trafficker in the United States, reportedly ordered six 55-gallon drums of sulfuric acid (approximately 208 liters) each, totaling 330 gallons (approximately 1,249 liters), to be shipped to his private island.
According to a report by the Daily Express, documents found in millions of Epstein Files records show the purchase was made through the company LSJE LLC for US$4,373.17 on June 12, 2018. This purchase coincided with the opening of the FBI's federal investigation into Epstein's alleged human trafficking activities.
The purchase requisition form stated, "x 6 55 gal drums sulphuric acid w/fuel and insurance charge for transport; materials for conductivity probes; replacement pH and cable - RO Plant."
RO here refers to a Reverse Osmosis water purification system. Sulfuric acid itself is an industrial chemical widely used in, among other things, water treatment, fertilizer production, battery manufacturing, and metal processing.
Public Documents Reveal Epstein's Trail
The release of millions of documents related to the Epstein case by the United States Department of Justice during the Donald Trump administration includes more than 3 million pages of documents, over 2,000 videos, and approximately 180,000 images.
The documents contain photos, videos, and emails from Epstein's personal computer, including records of Epstein's relationship with the scandal-plagued royal family member, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
According to IBT, one of the documents shows Epstein ordering large quantities of sulfuric acid. Many speculate that this chemical was used to cover up evidence of crimes.
However, to date, there has been no evidence to confirm that the sulfuric acid purchases were related to the destruction of criminal evidence.
Employees and Victims Testimony
Several witnesses have alleged that Epstein brought children to his private island. A former air traffic controller on the island's runway said, "the girls were so young that they 'couldn't have been over 16."
Another employee claimed to have frequently seen Epstein with young girls and initially thought it was a joke between employees.
“Every time he landed or took off, it was always brought up. We'd always be joking, 'How many kids are on board this time?'” the employee said. However, she added, she felt “pure disgust” that Epstein, a convicted sex offender, was still free to move around amid the #MeToo movement.
Epstein had a long history of alleged sexual abuse of young women on his private island. One victim claimed Epstein loaned it to wealthy friends.
At least four other victims also reported sexual abuse. Epstein died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He had previously been denied bail after being convicted of soliciting prostitution from underage victims and was a registered sex offender.
